On Sunday September 9th- 700 yogis descended upon the Sydney Domain to start a charity “wave”- a yoga challenge that would continue onto 27 countries, and would be participated in by 12000 people. It started in Sydney… and was to end in LA_ probably just as I am writing this blog.
This is Yoga Aid… The wonderful organisers Clive, Eriko, Mayumi & Rose have been running these events for 6 years now. Prana Space/ Rose Bay Yoga has participated in 5- (the only time i couldn’t get my act together was when I was in the throws of morning sickness)… I have had the good fortune to be asked to teach 4 of these times… It’s my biggest honour as a teacher- I look forward to it every year. We yoga’d to the beats of Future Sound of Yoga and the rhymes of MC Yogi… I know we told everyone we were “slogging it out for charity” – but if all truth be known, we were having the times of our lives under the splendid Sydney sun.
This year, our magic teacher training group, plus a few keen regulars joined the team and, without me needing to urge or promote, managed to raise enough funds to render us 3rd highest revenue raising team in the country. My team actually motivated me… not the other way around. The moment Emma F told me that she was pressuring every work colleague to donate; and Emma B instantly earned more than her “goal”.. finally replacing herself with her wonderful husband Ed when she hurt her back; to Gloria- who became the 10th highest individual fundraiser around the country; to the spunky Tom who inspired us to wear as little as possible and bear our prana Space tattoed arms and legs in the sun; to Ruby who roped little bro Lawrence in (and it looks like he may be swapping the bar bells for chaturangas as we speak); to Katie & Jodi for always being such great team players; and our own personal photographers and cinematographers- Carlene, Steve & Charlie.
You can watch us in action on: http://vimeo.com/passenger57/yoga-aid-2012 (thanks Steve).. and you can still sponsor us: http://www.yogaaid.com/australia/Challengers.aspx – find the pranaspace team- and sponsor any of us… And definitely, don’t be a fool and miss out next year.. it’s just too much fun.
